I have a Gateway MT6707 notebook that came preinstalled with Windows Vista
Home Premium. I upgraded to a new larger hard drive but the start up disc I created doesn't contain the operating system. I know it's the disc because I tried my startup disc from my other computer and it goes through all of the microsoft motions to the point where it says "This disc is not for this computer". How do I make a start updisc from my Gateway that will contain the operating system so I can use my new hard drive? |

I didn't get a backup restore disc with the system. It's the restore disc I
created from the system per direction. Also, I have verified it is the disc that is the problem because the other backup disc I created from my other computer does go through the process of trying to load windows, but won't because it knows it's the back up disc from my other computer instead of this one. I have contacted Gateway and am waiting response. Thanks for the advice. "SCSIraidGURU" wrote: Call Gateway and verify its the proper OS restore CD. -- SCSIraidGURU Michael A. Regarding "...It's the restore disc I created from the system per
direction...." - did you create a bootable restore disk? Can you elaborate? I recently installed a larger HD on a laptop by using an USB 2.5 External adapter case to house the new HD and cloned the old HD. "lcopeland" wrote in message ... You've been very helpful and I'm coming down the home stretch. I've got the
operating system back and now I also want to clone my new hard drive from the old one. I'm not having much luck with moving my backup from my external drive to the new drive. Can you tell me how I go about cloning the drive with the adapter case? Have a look at Acronis True Image for cloning.
