Every time I start my computer with Vista Business I have to open the "Local
Area Connection Properties" and check the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networs" service. Everything works fine after that but the next time I shut down and restart the computer, the service will be unchecked again. Can anyone tell me what program might uncheck tis service, presumably during start-up of the computer? I use Zone Alarm Securty Suite, Network Magic and Bonjour (although I have no Mac). Plenty of other programs of course, but I don't know which one would mess with my network settings except for the ones I listed. |

Start the computer in "Safe mode with networking" and see if the problem occurs. If it doesn't occur in Safe mode, then a program that only runs in normal mode is messing with the settings. One way to find out is to un-install one of the suspect programs, reboot, and see if the problem goes away. Repeat the process until it does, and you'll have your answer. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Do you have a Lenovo laptop? If so: 1. Click Start All Programs ThinkVantage Access Connections. 2. Click Manage. 3. Click your network profile. 4. Click Edit. 5. Click Additional Settings. 6. Click the "Settings" button next to "Network security". 7. Un-check the "disable file and printer sharing" box. If that doesn't help, see if your computer has a similar program that manages network profiles or settings. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Steve, you are truly a genious. That is exactly what my problem was. I'd change the value and thinkvantage would change it back - unbeknownst to me of course!
Thx. I can now share normally. The speed on my home net isn't the greatest but it doesn't need to be! I now have my laptops and desktops all networked. Feel like an Admin! |
