Default Internet explore doesn't respond, very slow wi-fi connection please help

Hi. A 1.5 month ago I bought new HP laptop hoping to replace my old
Toshiba XP It came with Visa home premium as preinstalled. It was a
nightmare! Since day 1 I had an issue with Wi-Fi. We have a Wi FI in the
building. With the new laptop it was either very slow, either not
connected at all. I called numerous time to provider. I didn't border
myself as much becouse I used outside wi-fi (not mine) connection when
I needed it. I also have another laptop working at home. But for the
last 3 days my IE not responding at all.
My network guys came over today and fix everything on their
side. Interent is working on the new laptop (ICQ running), but I can't
open IE.
So, I have 2 questions:
1. what was happening with wi-fi connection? Before provider used to
tell me that somth. blocking my comp from my side like a program. Well,
I turn off firewall (is it a stupid thing to do?) and other secure
softwear and still didn't work.
2. How can I fix IE problem?
3. I'm using AVG as a antivirus is that a good program? What other
programs you would recomend to isnstall to protect my information? (I do
banking and other stuff on line).
Please, tell me step by step what to do. I have a newborn Baby at
home and don't have as much time to figuring out what happend
anymore. I did everything what I could on my side, but nothing seems
working. Please, help:cry:

I have given up trying to sort a very similar problem. In the end HP
recommended that I install Firefox. I did that and now I just fly through
without a problem. I would prefer to get Explorer sorted though, so all
donations gratefully accepted!

Did you try to run IE with no add ons (system tools under accessories)
to see if some add on or active X was the problem?
