Default Failed System Restore

Using Vista Home Premium on Tosh Equium laptop & system restore fails -
message "unspecified erreor occurred". System operating OK - nil issues with
reduced speed. Any suggestions as to how overcome failed restores?

If the system is "operating OK", then why are you trying to run System
Restore?

Boot to Safe Mode, then run system restore. On my system, that's the
only way that works. If I don't use safe mode, I always get the same
unhelpful error message.
