Default HP 722C issues with Vista

I have a 722C hooked to my XP machine. I have been trying to use it thru
my network ( wired hub) from our new Vista machine. As well as trying it
directly connected to the Vista machine, it just will not work with it.
Always says it is missing an .INF file.
We have updated all the drivers as best we can but to no avail. The
Vista machine will see it thru the network, but refuses to work.
I have tried some new printers, but they are grossley inefficient with
their printing compared this old dino. Would love to keep it around for
a while longer.
If anyone has any suggestions to try, that would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

I know how you feel about the DJ722C -- one of the best printers ever
made! I replaced mine with a PS8250, another fine one but now replaced,
partly to get better photo printing and since I was going to VISTA.

I haven't therefore used it under VISTA but did you install a driver
for it on the VISTA machine? I imagine there is one out of the box in
VISTA.

Yes according to this HP document:

us&dlc=en&product=57565&lang=en

What happens when you use Add Printer there? Is that when you get No
INF file?

The 722 is a host-based printer. It has a puny CPU and only understands
a basic graphics mode, which is used for all printing. It typically
requires full communication between the computer and printer. Making it
work over a network was iffy at the best of times.

I don't know if there is anything here that MIGHT be of use:
