intel Dual-Core CPU not recognized AGAIN!
This is getting totally rediculeous. TWICE now when I've had to do a
repair-install of a microsoft operating system it ends up that the intel P4 D830 is NOT recognized as a dual-core CPU! The last time was with an XP Pro installation and this time with VISTA! I looked everywhere on every support forum I could find and none of the suggested fixes worked, they seemed to all be about problems with AMD CPUs. I finally ran across a list of the driver files that were used for dual-core under XP and used a Linux live boot CD that had NTFS write support built in to force the correct files to be used by copying them over the hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe, and the other one I can't remember at the moment. Then I decided to upgrade to Vista. I had all kinds of problems with the video drivers and finally got that all working. Then I made the mistake of attempting to remove Norton 360 from my computer because I had suddenly lost the ability to download my email and everything I could find on all the support forums I am on pointed the finger at Norton. What a disaster! It took me two days to finally get Vista re-installed and then I noticed it only had recognized the CPU as a single core CPU. I tried to fix it the same way I did XP but the only file I could find was hal.dll and not the others. So now what? Do you have ACPI enabled in the BIOS? Is your BIOS up to date and see your dual cores? -- SCSIraidGURU Michael A. The BIOS is the latest and it DOES and ALWAYS has shown two CPUs. Also, Everest Home Edition v2.20.405 shows it as dual-core. Only the Device Manager and task manager fail to recognize it as dual-core. -- SCSIraidGURU Michael A.
