Default Problem with playback of burned DVD using Media Center

I burned a dvd-r from home video using Studio 11. The DVD will play on a DVD
Player but will not play from my computer. Help from Studio 11 indicates
that Vista has a DVD decoder on it so the dvd should play using Windows media
Center. Any Suggestions on what could be done to enable computer playback.

BTW, I know the drive works since I play other DVD's on it.

Hi Campheel,

Since the DVD plays on a DVD player, that indicates that the DVD is working.
The most probable cause is that you haven't got the necessary codec
installed, or that the codec is corrupted. The solution in this case would be
to locate a copy of the codec and reinstall it. However, are you able to see
the contents of the DVD on your computer? I am not familiar with Studio 11,
but can you play the DVD through that? When you burned the DVD, did you
finalize and close it? In some cases, a DVD will play on a DVD player but not
a computer because of the difference in the way it is decoded. With a DVD
player, the decoder is hardware based as opposed to software based in a
computer.

I don't know what codec is or where to locate it to install it. I can see
the contents on Windows Explorer but can't play from there. I did finalize
and close it.

Any other suggestions or instructions on "codec"?

Thanks
