I made the mistake of using Dell tech support for a bluetooth problem. Story
for another day, and problem persists...
I have an inspiron 1420 with vista home premium sp1. 4gb ram. It loads fast
and from the start (about a week) "clean" (i.e. no blinking screen).

Since the tech call (which resinstalled the bleutooth dell device driver),
my screen blinks (goes black) once after welcome and before full desktop
loads. It was blinking twice, but I noticed he messed up my sys config which
I changed back to "normal startup", and now only 1 blink.

I saw here in forum that this is due to video driver re-initializing. But I
would swear this did not happen before the tech call. I am also loading
Google Sidebar.

1. is this blinking normal - driver re-init? even though it had not done
this prior to support call. small chance it did and I missed it but I am
pretty observant. why would driver now need to re-init?

2. maybe try a system restore? I am always hesitant to do things like
this... is restore bullitt-proof?
Thanks if anyone has suggestions. I can live with it but would rather not.
ps - beware Dell tech support!! I'm finding and paying a local pro next time.

This is an old thread, but you may be here because, like everyone
else, you're annoyed at this behavior. Here's the solution:

1. Go start -- control panel -- administrative options -- task
scheduler.
2. On the left-hand side, click "Task Scheduler Local" (you should
already be there).
3. Expand "Task Scheduler Library," then "Microsoft," then "Windows,"
then click "MobilePC."
4. Up top, you'll see a task called "TMM." Click it, and on the right-
hand side, click "Disable."

What's going on is this. Vista, upon startup, looks for another
monitor. The screen on your unit blacks out for a second or two, then
it comes back, re-setting the mouse pointer at the same time. The
process above tells Vista not to look for another monitor. Good

As you know, that was the trick! Yes, it was very annoying.
