Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared. Vista File and Printer Sharing- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Windows XP File Sharing - http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;304040 Printer Sharing XP - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...utt_july2.mspx Windows Native Firewall setting for Sharing XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875357 Windows XP patch for Sharing with Vista - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120 Jack (MVP-Networking). "Wolverine in Michigan" wrote in message ... I can't link up my XP to my Vista Home Premium computer. All service packs installed. Each computer can see the other but I can't access the XP's shared folder. I am using cross over USB cable and have installed drivers for same. I get message trying to access my XP from my Vista pc - "folder is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource." "Not enough server storage to process this command" I have granted access on the XP to share this folder. Is there a simple, 1,2,3 step by step process to ensure that I have met all necessary criteria to make a pc to pc connection? Many thanks |

Many thanks That's a registry setting, and it will take careful experimentation to get the right setting. The change is simple enough though. http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2005/06/server-functionality-affected-by.html http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2005...fected-by.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://networking.nitecruzr.net/ |

Networking XP and Vista.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall (or LAN allowed, depending on how their Exceptions are worded in their Firewall) 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and passwords (passwords can be different) on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista computer. Also, run the XP’s Home or Small Office Network File and Printer Sharing Wizard to include Vista in your “New” Network, even if you had an XP Network set up prior to adding a Vista computer to it(redoing the Wizard seems to work for XP machines!). In “My Network Places”: “Set up a Home or Small Office Network” OR under Accessories Communications Network Setup Wizard Allow File and Printer Sharing. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "Wolverine in Michigan" wrote: I can't link up my XP to my Vista Home Premium computer. I'm not saying that USB wouldn't work, but it's most likely an inferior way to go about things. Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |
