Default MovieMaker Shuts Down and will not publish in Vista

I just created a 2 minute video project in Movie Maker. It shut down on me
repeatedly during the process. Now that I am ready to publish, it will not
do so - in email, dvd, or to my computer.

When I hit publish to DVD, MS DVD Maker also shuts down. I have re-booted
repeatedly. I'm not sure where to start to troubleshoot.

A first place to start is to see if you have incompatible source (video
and/or audio) files. Try this URL:

Another trick that sometimes works is to uncheck the boxes in Movie Maker|
Tools| Options| Compatibility.

Does it give you a crash error or does it simply shut down quietly?

Im not sure but could it be that you have installed some codecs for your
players that have made your computer go much slower?

I had the same problem going for apparently no reason whatsoever and my
cpu just kept turning off randomly and overheating...
