Default %20 instead of space in folder names.

Reccently I made the mistake of letting my girlfriend take my laptop with her
on a road trip when it came back all of the folder names that had a space in
them have been replaced with a %20. Any ideas what she did?

I fail to see how chkdsk will have any bearing, what is your reasoning behind
this?
