Default Drivers Gone After SP1 Failure

I have an HP Pavillion m8020n desktop with Vista Home Premium. After trying
to resolve a number of minor problems HP convinced me to upgrade to SP1.
After running for many hours the install failed. After that failure I started
getting prompted to install many different hardware drivers including my HP
Media Drive, Ieee controller etc. I bypassed these and evything seemed to
work so the next time I got asked to install a driver I selected "Don't ask
me this anymore". Well since then Vista will not recognize any new devices
including my media drive, printers, MP3 player, wireless keyboard and mouse
or the advanced features of my monitor (sound). I tried to recover the
drivers using the system restore wizard. Syas everything worked but still no
devices.

Tried to recover from a restore point but I don't seem to have any.

ANy ideas short of recovering the system to manufacturers defaults (BY the
way I also have not been able to run a backup).

Use the free MS support site for SP1 and see if they can get you going
without having to restore.

Is that when you use the start email request button? I am able to get past
that so if you have another computer try from it.

Are you running Norton AV? Apparently NAV has a problem with SP1, the
registry gets munged up and device manager is emptied. There is a fix
from Norton, altho I would be tempted to dump it..
