Default Securing a folder on a Shared Drive, as read only access or passwo

I need to have a folder on our Network Share drive either set as read only,
or password protected so that only the author can make changes, deletions,
additions etc....Is this possible?

Sure, right click on the folder and select properties. Assign permissions in
both Sharing and Security accordingly.
