Vista Ultimate 64-bit 8GB on ASUS 3A32-MVP Deluxe
I am fully aware of that I just failed to mention that you have to go into
the BIOS to make changes required for all memory to run at the slower speed. "dennis" wrote in message ... Curious wrote: One difference between memory support in memory support in XP and in Vista is that when Vista boots it will test the speed of all the memory to insure that it is all running at the same speed. If it is not then it only recognizes the slower memory. That is a job for the BIOS. It programs the memory controller, not the OS. |

Vista Ultimate 64-bit 8GB on ASUS 3A32-MVP Deluxe
It's just a matter of reading. I mentioned 64-bit Vista Ultimate SP 1 and XP
Pro SP2 64-bit. All my DIMMS are the exact same make and model. They are exactly what is specified on page 2-15 of the motherboard manual. "Curious" wrote: Colin is the guru of 8GB memory support and addressing in this and several other newsgroups. He assumed that when you mentioned XP that you did not mean the 64bit version of XP. All versions of Vista can run 64 bit vista and can support more the 4GB of memory. The 32bit versions can not support more the 4GB for any one process however. I recommend you explore the discussions on the forum at
http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx...Language=en-us and in particular, http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us and if you have not already, engage the other users posting in the motherboard forums. Vista is the OS involved but probably does not contain the solution. The issue is at heart hardware. Best wishes in your search. "MrKit" wrote in message ... It's just a matter of reading. This is why I hate forums as a poor alternative to companies that want to
overcharge us and then provide no tech support, limited tech support or paid tech support. I spent hours and hours reading and writing and proofing messages for almost a week, just to find out that it was all wasted time. It's not your fault. It's the fault of the companies like Microsoft who sold me XP Pro 64-bit and then Vista Ultimate 64-bit and yet will not help me anymore. I will have to decide whether I am interested in doing more of this forum stuff elsewhere. It just seems to me that since the BIOS accepts, sees and uses ALL the memory and Vista cannot even boot with it, then if it is a hardware issue, it would pertain to how the software interacts with it. In other words, Vista needs to work with the hardware, especially mainstream hardware that was in testing the same time Vista was. This is not antiquated hardware nobody uses anymore.
