Default Program Will Not Install Properly in Vista - error messages

Hi,

I have installed this program in XP,and have used it for years.
But it will not install in Vista.
I have tried installing it in the usual place, and in C:\ and D:\ both times
i got the same messages.

I get the error messages below:

1) The first message i get after installation is :

to check the install log which says "Unable to save the uninstall
information to the registry. Uninstall will not

work properly."

2) when i try to register with my key i get this message
"cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset"

3) when i try to UNinstall it, error message is :
FATAL ERROR
"....There is no installation archive present.
No installation parameters were specified.
You should not delete this program or execute it directly."

4) when i open the program i get this message :
"I/O error 123"
The program then looks normal and looks open and ready to work

5) when i try to close the program I get this message:
"the application is not responding. The program may respond if you wait.
Do you want to end this process?"

I had another 2 programs not install properly, and in the one case i was told
to install in a different folder or drive which worked fine. But in the other
case the program did not work properly.I was told that it was due to the
UAC.

What is causing the problem this time ? Anyone know HOW to fix it ???

Thanks very much

Default Program Will Not Install Properly in Vista - error messages

Hi,

It's not UAC. It's the program's installer, it's likely not written to
follow the parameters of an installation in Vista. It's attempting to write
to protected registry keys, and likely is trying to run from the Program
Files folder rather than being virtualized in the user's appdata.

Try this: Right click the installer's setup file and use 'run as
administrator'. Continue at the UAC prompt and follow setup through to
completion. Then try running the program. If it doesn't perform normally,
right click the link and choose properties. On the compatibility tab try
using XP mode. If that fails, try right clicking the program link and using
'run as administrator'.

The program clearly needs to be updated by the vendor in order to be Vista
compatible, and you should make them aware of this. In the meantime, the
above workarounds may at least allow you to use it. If they fail, then there
is always Virtual PC.
