HELP! Monitor Settings Issues: Can't Alter the Monitor Settings...
.... via the menu-buttons on the actual physical monitor.
By this I mean that on my old CRT monitor's facia, one one had pushed the necessary buttons in the necessary order, one could alter - as in move from left-to-right, brightness, contrast and make more convex/concave the sides, bottom & top of the screen window image (?) - the visible screen via the monitors case buttons & then the OSD. Mostly true on my new Dell SE198WFP 19' flat-panel, all apart from one glaringly annoying OSD menu option button, that being the 'Positioning' button (along w/auto-adjust & image settings), which does the concave/convex thing and is shown onscreen as a button w/arrows pointing to the cardinal-points to suggest previous statement. Obviously this is the button I need, with medium-to-high importance, to use; but I cannot, for, whereas w/the old CRT, this button was readily and easily available to all, on this new TFT, all the other menu-buttons (colour, advanced & OSD settings plus audio/factory reset etc) are available and bright-white in text-colour, but the positioning (and auto-adjust etc) button is in dull grey and cannot be accessed (by me anyway). This monitor came w/a Dell Vostro 410 tower (Intel Core2 Wuad CPU/2GB RAM, 32-bit), and is great APART from this problem. However, there was no instruction manual in any of the boxes, so either there wasn't one, or mine was mis-packed. Either-way, I do not know how to manipulate the buttons either on the OSD or the monitor's own butons. PLEASE, some advice and help? Many premature thanks... DrJ. |

HELP! Monitor Settings Issues: Can't Alter the Monitor Settings...
Hi DrJ,
Could this be the issue? "NOTE: Positioning and Image Settings are only available when you are using the analog (VGA) connector." This is taken from the documentation for your monitor. Thanks to Carey for the link. Dwarf "DrJ" wrote: ... via the menu-buttons on the actual physical monitor. HELP! Monitor Settings Issues: Can't Alter the Monitor Setting
Hi DrJ,
In addition to my last post, have you installed the monitor driver (link given below)? This driver informs your PC of the capabilities of your monitor, together with timing and colour corrections. Also check to see that you have set the resolution on your PC to 1440 x 900 at 60 Hz which is the Optimal preset resolution for the monitor. Refer to the link from Carey (also given below for convenience) and reset your monitor to factory settings (the 'Factory Reset' option). Many thanks to both of you, and apol's for misplacing here originally, the 'puter brought me here etc (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!). Not having had any documenation shipped w/my machine was strange and annoying, esp' as I was given two monitor cables (VGA & Digital) without any suggestion as to which I should use. Still dunno if there is any real difference 'twixt either cable's output quality. Still, your answer(s) did the job, qand now I know why etc. Many thanks again... DrJ. |
