I have windows home premium. I need to be able to fax. It is not worth
pying $159 to upgrade to ultimate because i do not need the other items.
does any one know of options?

Here's what I'm using:

For $40 more than the cost of the upgrade, you can have a laser
printer/scanner/copier/fax machine. It does a great job at all tasks, and
includes PC fax capabilities.

Or, for another $50, you can get the same machine with an Ethernet
connection. A true network printer.

These Fax products work under Vista:

Snappy Fax

RKSFax

VentaFax
http://www.ventafax.com/
FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 7.5

I've seen reports that the free version of BVRP works with Vista also:

http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp
BVRP PhoneTools

Since the above comes bundled with new USR modems, I don't know if it will
work with non-USR modems. You can also send Faxes via your Internet
connection provided you are willing to pay for an Internet E-Faxing service:

FAQ: How can I send a fax from the Internet?

Here are two options:

1. There are several third-party fax applications. Most (if not all)
of these are way under $159. I've never personally used any of these,
so I'll let someone else recommend one.

2. Buy a standalone fax machine. That's my choice. I bought mine on
sale for $20, and it works just fine.
