No display/Black screen
My laptop went to sleep while I was away and I did a manual shut down and
turned it back on. The log-in screen appeared, I typed in my password, and when I was taken to the desktop, a black screen with my pointer appreared and that's it. I restarted again...same result. I finally turned on in safe mode and I still cannot see anything but the pointer. Vista Home Premium (SP1) Acer Aspire 5920G Nvidia 8600M GT Turbo Cache Any help is appreciated and I can provide other specs if needed. |

No display/Black screen
I have the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 1525/Vista Home Premium. My
problem started yesterday 02.07.2008. I have tried all safe modes and all restore points without any luck. When I boot from the Windows CD and go to repair-mode, the screen works, but no problems are detected. Dell Support suggested reinstalling - there has to be a better way. No display/Black screen
FYI
I didn´t solve the problem. I had to reinstall. I managed to save all important files as Vista accepted to write to a removable disk (flash drive) from the command box in repair mode and accepted wildcards in the copy function. I was looking for drivers or init-files that Vista loades even in safe-mode after logon but I ran into a dead end. Reacitvating the Vista administrator user with the "net user" command didn´t work. Adding a new user profile or deleting an old one with "net user" didn´t work. My conclusion was that it was not just a driver problem, but a lot more complex, so I had to give up. I was lucky that I hadn´t installed much since receiving the computer. The recovery tool from Dell that reinstalls the factory settings including all preinstalled software worked perfectly so that the reinstalation work was limited. By the way - the supporter from Dell tried his best, I'm impressed with his interest for the problem. - so not much help from here, but my best wishes. "ClausG" skrev i meddelelsen ...
