Hi Colin,
Found the problem,it's the sodding Lexmark printer I have had
major problems with the cursed thing so I uninstalled it and the problem
has
gone, except that the Lexmark Fax Solutions will not allow me to
uninstall, there's an error message that reads:
You do not have access to uninstall Lexmark Fax Solutions
Please contact your system administrator.

Any ideas on how to get around this!!

aga

You can try uninstalling from an elevated command window. Click on the
start orb and type CMD in the Start/Search box BUT do not hit Enter.
Instead right click on the cmd icon at the top of the menu stack and choose
Run As Administrator. Then type APPWIZ.CPL at the prompt and hit Enter.
That will run the Uninstall a Program with elevated permissions. As long as
you can find the program in the list you should not have the access problem.

Default Device Monitor Appliaction

Hi, there.....I am so glad someone understands the dilemma of "device monitor
application has stopped working." And yes -- I have/had a Lexmark 2500
series printer which caused this error. I thought I'd removed everything,
but I can't remove Lexmark 2500 Series from my add/remove programs in my
control panel. Each time I try to remove this, I get an error which says
"%build template error message%."

I tried the solution below, but unfortunately it didn't work.

PLEASE HELP!!! Please-if you can--reply to me directly to my email address.

Thanks!!

Colin, I have the same "device monitor application" problem when windows
opens. I have a Gateway ML6732 with Vista and a Lexmark printer 3500-4500.
I don't want to uninstall the printer as I use it. Can I get rid of the
error message and still keep my printer? What exactly does this error
message hurt except for being annoying? ~SW

Is a Device Monitor an advent supplied utility?

What program or device are you using when that happens? "Device Monitor" is
not the name of a Windows program or service that I know of.

You should tell us the exact make and model of the computer. "Advent
laptop" is pretty general. The Advent.uk site is not helpful without the
exact model. There are very many.

I also have a Lexmark Printer...X3550...and have suddenly (as of today)
started receiving this error message:

Device Monitor Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.

This comes on as soon as I switch from Copy mode to Scan mode.

The printer (all in one) is fairly new...about 6 weeks...it's worked fine
until today.

I tried uninstalling all printer applications and re-installing. I tried
downloading the drivers from Lexmark. Nothing worked. Still receiving error
message.

Print function (mode) works fine, but it's the scan mode that is getting the
error message.

Lexmark used the Remote Assistance feature and looked around. Lexmark says
it's the Microsoft .NET Framework that's the culprit.

However, even the Lexmark Support Tech (thru Remote Assistance) could not
either repair or uninstall the .NET Framework (2.0) in the add/remove
programs.

I've tried re-installing the .NET Framework from my original operating disk,
and still getting the same errors.

Lexmark says the printer and software are fine. Microsoft says since my
Windows XP is OEM, that it's a gateway problem. Gateway says my warranty
ended back in 2004, however to try to reinstall the .NET Framework.

HELP !!!

I was able to get rid of the device monitor application message through a
download from Lexmark. Now I'm having problems getting my Lexmark X4530 to
scan. It says "No configured computer found on the network." Any ideas?

Okay...here's the solution to the scan problem which I had.

My problem was that I couldn't scan, but I could print.

Lexmark was no help as the issue isn't with Lexmark but your computer's
ability to send/receive instructions from that device, which is apparently
what you need the .NET Framework for.

After several hours of trial and error, I found there's a "correction tool"
software download at microsoft for the .NET Framework software. Apparently
this is nothing more than a registry error on your system as regards the .NET
Framework.

I tried uninstalling the .NET Framework thru add/remove programs. The
system wouldn't let me. I tried a repair thru the add/remove programs.
Again the system wouldn't let me.

All your .NET Framework updates need to be working properly...so make sure
you have all the latest updates from Windows Updates.

I finally found a "fix"...it's a correction software patch thru Microsoft.
Sorry but I didn't save the web address for it. There's 3 different patches
(fixes)...I don't know why. So I tried all 3. The first 2 said they
couldn't do anything for me...wouldn't install. The 3rd patch fixed the
problem with my Lexmark so I could now scan in documents. The fix was
immediate.

So, I would first go to Windows Update and make sure you have the latest
updates. If any of them fail to download and install, do a search right
there on Microsoft (top right hand corner) for that software update...then
look at the search results for fixes for failure to download that update.
You should find the correction software patch there.

Sorry I didn't save the exact addy for the fix....but I was so frustrated
after hours of trying to fix this problem, and had tried so many things,
that I was losing hope by that point.
