Default Can't remove K7TotalSecurity

Hi Everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this problem I've been having.
Up until November last year I had F-Secure virus protection on my computer
and I changed it to K7TotalSecurity. I had some problems with K7 so then I
tried Norton, but Norton gave me heaps of trouble and when I wanted to remove
it I found it very difficult to get rid of. I eventually did remove it and
installed Trend, which seemed to be OK until the day before yesterday when I
couldn't log on to the internet.
I called my server, Bigpond, and they told me I had a perfect connection,
but that there was a firewall blocking my access to the internet. I then got
in touch with Trend because I couldn't remove it and they talked me through
it.
I have now discovered tha K7TotalSecurity is still running, even though I
thought I had deleted it from the 'Add & Remove' folder it's still showing
there and won't be removed. I get a message saying that 'the feature you are
trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
I've looked in Program Files and it's not there, and I also noticed in
Program Files that the folders - InstallShield Installation Information ,
Uninstall Information and Windows Update - are all showing in a lighter
colour than the rest of the folders, like a pale ghosty yellow? My question
is how can I find K7 to completely remove it and have I somehow lost some of
my Program Files?
Also I no longer have the K7 console to open to turn the firewall off.
Kind regards
Zoë

It sounds like you deleted the entry in the Add/Remove window, not the
program. The usual solution is to try reinstalling the program, or running
the program install/remove from the program and then use the uninstall
feature, either from within the program installer, or from the install
remove window.

This assumes that the program followed the windows install remove
conventions.
If it does not, a manual remove process may be needed. The usual problem
with this is that "stuff" gets left in the registry, unless some sort of
cleanup is done. Unfortunately, finding out what registry entries should be
removed is not an easy or quick process. Then, manually removing them
requires a bit of care be taken to not do anything else. Mistakes can cause
major problems.

Hi Chuck. Thank you for this information. I did as you suggested and
reinstalled it and then removed it and it has fixed the problem. That's
great. I do appreciate you quick response.
