Default SD Memory and Memory Stick Slow and Errors

I have a new HP Compaq Presario PC (SR5448F) computer runnung Vista. When I
insert a SD card from my Camera into the SD slot or through an adapter into
the USB port there is a delay before the files are shown. Also when I try to
copy the files some will show up as errors. The same thing happens if I try
to copy files from a Memory Stick. I am running Vista with SP1 and have 2GB
RAM
