Default Changing read-only files

I just got Vista and have some photos that I need to edit that were created
in XP. When I try to change them to edit, Ifirst I get the administrator
box; I click continue but keep getting the same error (telling me access is
denied) and even if I try it again, ultimately it reverts back to read-only
file. Is there a way to get around this? Thanks so much!!

You can try PropertiesSecurity and gain permission to file if you don't
have it.
In some of my old photos that were migrated from my old XP to Vista,
changing UAC permissions didn't do it.

If changing the file's Properties doesn't work this workaround will:

1. Open photo with Windows Paint.
2. Change to different format. In my case it was from jpeg to tiff.
3. Save converted photo to your “editing” folder.
4. The photo can now be successfully edited with Photo Gallery.
5. If you desire open edited photo with Paint and convert back to original
format.

If you open the properties of the new edited photo you’ll see some file
properties (details) were added to the original photo during the conversions
which now makes it editable by Photo Gallery.

Hope this helps.
