Default HP Laserjet 5MP on Parallel Port?

I've just installed Vista Ultimate and am unable to get my LJ 5MP to work.
It's on a parallel port. When I try to print a test page it just says
"Error" in the printer queue window with no additional info.

Any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot?

TIA,
Bill

Hi Bill,

HP may not have released drivers for that product yet, though many of their
printers are natively supported. Their download site does not list any Vista
drivers for that printer, and this is the only blurb they have about it:
http://h20219.www2.hp.com/services/c....html#Printers

Hopefully, when the consumer release goes out in January they will be
updating their drivers list as well.

Well it turns out that it was the parallel port that was at fault -- so
Vista is OK.

Rick
FYI, this turned out to be a problem with the parallel port on the
machine. The printer now works fine -- no new drivers required.

There is an in-box driver for the HP LaserJet 5/5M as there is for a lot of
printers. Although printer manufacturers may not have Vista specific
drivers on their web site, there may well be an in-box driver.

Also, the printer drivers for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 will, in
the majority of cases, work just fine with Vista.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
