Default All video files play in black and white... Possibly caused by an M

Hi all,

REALLY frustrating problem. Watched a video a few days ago, no problems at
all. Haven't done much on it since, but definitely installed some MS updates.
Now every time I try to play a video, it's in black and white.

I've searched on Google and found some very obvious solutions, but they all
involve an option in WMP11 that I don't seem to have for some reason...
Apparantly going into Tools Options Performance Advanced you need to
change something in the Hardware Acceleration area. I don't have an advanced
button in the Performance tab, so I can't even check that.

I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC with Vista Home Preminum Service Pack
1. If I missed any info let me know.

Can anyone explain why??? I've REALLY annoying me... Many thanks!!!

I don't know that reducing your Graphics
Hardware Acceleration would help but if
you want to give it a try....

"No guarantees and proceed at your own risk."

Windows Vista -
How To Reduce Graphics
Hardware Acceleration

1. Click Start, type personalization
in the Start Search box, and then
click Personalization in the Programs
list.

2. Click Display Settings.

3. Click Advanced Settings.

4. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and
then drag the Hardware Acceleration
slider to the left until it is one notch to
the right of None (the Basic acceleration
setting).

5. Click OK, and then click Close.

6. If you are prompted to restart the
computer, click Yes.

If the problem is improved...reinstall/
update your video driver. If the problem
is not improved...return the acceleration
to Full and seek a different solution.

Good luck.

Hi John,

Under the troubleshoot tab it says "Your current display driver does not
allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings"

Therefore, i am unable to make any changes. Thank you for your information
though, any other ideas?

I spend some time looking into my graphic's card settings and playing with
them. I started to notice that some of the changes i was making effected my
color on the videos. I believe that I have solved it.

1. Click Start, type personalization
in the Start Search box, and then click Personalization in the Programs list.

2. Click Display Settings.

3. Click Advanced Settings.

4. I have a GeForce 8400M GS graphic's card (i think that's what it is) so I
clicked on that tab

5. Click "start the NVIDIA Control Panel"

6. Click Video & Television

7. Click "Adjust video color settings"

8. Unchecked "apply these settings to all video technologies"

It appears that the problem has been resolved at that point. I don't know
what caused the problem in the first place, but i do know that this fixed it.
I only ever go into the NVIDIA Control Panel when i use my second monitor and
i go into display not video and television... Thanks for the help John! I
wouldn't of poked around more if you didn't lead me there.
