Hi!
I have a Dell Dimension E520 with Vista Home Premium, and a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi card. We have Windows Media Player, Media Center, Creative software, Winamp, RealAudio, Itunes, and maybe some more. Dont ask why!!! Audio CDs play on ALL non-Windows players. WMP11 and WMedia Center say they encountered a problem, and when the WebHelp button is clicked, I get the message that error C00D11B1 has occurred. All other players audio cds properly. All Video CDs play (with sound). All DVDs play. Why oh why my audio cds are not liked? I like my sound system and my music and (my son thinks me funny) Windows Media Player. He says to go ahead and use one of the many players (its like a dept store!); but I as an EDP person feel that if WMP11 is not well, Vista Home Premium is not well; and that is not a comfortable feeling. Any advice? I have updates upto KB937287. I have not gone to the next update, which I think is SP1 Windowskb and Hwkb have solved ALL my problems so far. I hope I am lucky this time too. Until the calvary comes to this thread you can try this: WMP11 now playing more options devices speakers maybe change the audio device to use a different sound card or tweak the one you have. Also, if you’ve installed any software lately, Google or Yahoo! and see if that software is causing any Vista WMP 11 problems. Overall, WMP11 plays 95% of what I feed it. I do have a problem with some old home digital videos that had been migrated from XP third party software but I use GOM player for those. -- oscar ....Right click is your best friend... What problem do you have with the old home digital videos? What codecs do they use? -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Yahoo!!!God bless ****kb.com: it has always come up with a solution: logical,
heuristic, "it worked for me, I dont know how"; but a solution. I unticked WMP11 now playing more options devices speakers "use 24 bit audio for audio cds". And WMP11 played my audio cds. Does this mean my Creative Sounblaster X-FI is incapable of handling 24 Bit audio? I dont think so. What with PEOPLE trynig to use Music players to DISTORT music ( there is a distortion option also!), I have a feeling the sound card has been unsettled somehow. Shall go through that maze now. And check if WMP11 continues to play DVDs MP3s, VCDs and the like. Any more golden words of wisdom? Glad you got it going.
p.s. I first scoffed at WM Center, too. But now I find that it's a fun toy. Free internet TV, too. (Beta level but free.) -- oscar ....Right click is your best friend...
