I just bought a laptop with vista home on it. I am having a odd printer
problem. I have 2 networked printers: a Brother MFC-240CN printer and a HP Laserjet 5m. If the printers are turned on before the computer, then Vista see the printers and show thier status as online. However if the printer I wish to print to is turned on AFTER Visa loads, then the printer status shows as OFFLINE and I cannot figgure out how to make Vista see that the printer is now actually ONLINE. I am not expieriencing this issue on my XP, Linux, or HP-UX computers so it is not a network issue. |

news ![]() Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer. ChooseAdd a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in \\basement\epsonsty." Hope it helps. Is EpsonSty the local printre name on basement, or is it the shared name? |

... the local printer name, insert your names as appropriate. You CANNOT use spaces in the naming convention if you want it to work this way. Thanx, I'll rename without spaces. |
