Help connecting a new sata hard drive
Hi sorry if I posted in the wrong forum but I got this hitachi sata 320gb hard drive from newegg and didnt come with any cords or drivers, just the hard drive. Ive been having problems trying to get the pc to reconize the hard drive, here is what I have done that hasnt worked, ive tryed connecting the sata cords to different slots on the motherboard, I have enabled all my raid ports, Ive gone to disk management and it cant even read it, I can feel the disks inside the drive spinning so I do know that its recieving power, Ive loaded the vista disk and clicked install and went to where it wants to know where you want to install it and it cant find the hard drive. The model number is P7K500 and its a hitachi sata 320gb hd. If anyone can help I would apreciate it, I really need this drive hooked up because im out of space in my 160gb hard drive. -- xXwhygodwhyXx |

Help connecting a new sata hard drive
Have you loaded the Sata drivers? Is this drive the only Sata device in your
machine. Being new to Sata myself I've just been told/informed that when installing my OS I have to F6 to install drivers for Sata to get them recognized. Mickey "xXwhygodwhyXx" wrote in message ... Mickey Mickey, that depends entirely on the mobo and whether or not you are using Raid. If the mobo is several years old you would have to load drivers, but if it is Vista you wouldn't use F6. That's for XP and earlier. In Vista you use the Load Drivers button on the volume selection screen. If your mobo is pretty new SATA support should be automatic (unless you are using Raid). |

... Please help I just got a new drive and vista still cant read it. -- xXwhygodwhyXx Unless you have another computer in which to try the drive, I recommend that you simply return it to NewEgg for a replacement or refund. |

Help connecting a new sata hard drive
Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management ans see if it appears there. If it does not then there may well be a problem with the hard drive or the caddy. If it does then it will probably be in black, a different colour from the other hard drives. If here is a red cross next to the name right click on it and select initialize. The red cross will disappear. next right click on the drive and select format. after what seems like many days the format will be complete and the drive should be recognised. -- oldun |
