Default no speaker icon in taskbar or system tray

My icon in the bottom right corner of the speaker for adjusting volume
disappeared. Why and where did it go? how do I get it back

Hi:

If you go to Start--Setting-Control panel -Sound and Audio Devices you
will see in device volume a tick for Place Volume icon in the task bar.

No, I know this applied in XP, but in Vista 64bit you have instead a
"sound" item under Control panel and you cant do as you suggest!

Right click your Start orb and select Properties. In the Notification Area
tab check the Volume icon in System icons.

I was having the same problem with sound and network icons. Thanks for
