How do i get Windows Media Player to play .mp4a file types, at the moment i
am only able to Play through Itunes.
Had a look around for available codecs but i was unable to find one,
any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

You need ffdshow and Matroska Splitter. Than any MP4 content (audio and
video) should play in any player. Media Player may still complayn about the
file extention, but it will still play the file if you force it.

http://www.codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm
http://mirror03.x264.nl/x264/MatroskaSplitter.exe

PS:
Matroska Splitter is just to open the MP4 container, but also supports MPEG
and AVI.
ffdshow supports any compression format that you have or have not heard of
;-) + subtitles, +post processing effects... It is the greatest freeware
codec.
Enjoy.
