Wireless Access Point
 

Hi all,

I was setting up a Linksys WAP. As long as the cable is plugged in I can
access the built in home page of the WAP. As soon as I unplug the cable I
cannot access the home page???

Any ideas

What cable?

In general with wireless access points or wireless routers, you should only
log into them to make alterations with physical connections, not via
wireless. Yours may block access from wireless sources and only authenticate
hard-wired ones.

Rick,

I set up the WAP with an Ethernet cable to set the device. After all
settings were done I disconnected the Ethernet cable. As soon as the
Ethernet cable is unplugged I cannot access the WAP's homepage.

That's the way it is supposed to be. Would you want anyone with a wireless
connection and the ability to crack your password ( a five minute job for
some software) able to alter your router? The router can only be accessed
from "inside" meaning a wire connected computer. Anything outside, the
Internet, or any wireless connection cannot access it.

Once it is set up and working, there would be no reason to access it in any
event.

Curious,

Not sure, the AP is for handheld computers, for package bar code scanning.
We had a connection before the WAP, but not very strong. It seems stronger
now but how can I be sure this thing is working? Is there a way to test for
this?

You could disable the wireless of your base wireless router or remove its
antennas and then you would know that you are using the access point.
How do you expect to login to the WAP via wireless if all you are using with
it is a bar code scanner?
