USB so slow + DVD backup
X- post: microsoft.public.windows.vista.general +
microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices FU2: microsoft.public.windows.vista.general Also posted to alt.sys.pc-clone.dell, I guess Hello. I am writing from France (though in English, hopefully). I recently had to reinstall my laptop (Dell Inspiron). Before that, I had lots of problems with backing up data onto USB keys, as the system required up to thirty minutes to copy some 600 favorites. It was just as slow when it came to erasing files from the same. After my hard disk failed I reinstalled the whole thing--accessing Vista's SP1 at last. Unfortunately, with the machine being updated and all, I am still experiencing just the same problems with USB ports. I asked on French forums, but no-one seems to encounter the same issue. Therefore, I have two sets of questions: - 1. are there really very few people who are faced with hyper-slow USB? - 2. would anybody know why some of us have to face this? - 3. when Vista first came out, my Windows Mails was desperately slow, until someone sent me a reg file (found on some American forum) which, though nobody seemed to quite know why and how, made Windows Mail a usable program at last; would there be such a "patch" to speed up the USB? If I can't use USB ports, then I'd like to use DVDs, but I am still looking for a good program, one that can erase a file from the DVD after noticing it was from the hard disk. - 4. would anynone know of such a program? I am using Nero on another machine with XP SP3, but it seems to malfunction: each time I back up a directory onto a dedicated DVD, I find that the program uses up more and more space, though the backed up files are listed only once, so that after a few times the DVD is full with just the same files, although said files are of course not 4,7Gb big; then I have to erase the DVD and do it all over again. - 5. would anyone know why Nero does that, and how I could change it? I can't seem to find any parameters that I could alter. ....Well, thanks for reading, thanks in advance for helping if you can. PS If you think of any other forum where I could ask, kindly let me know. -- a. |

USB so slow + DVD backup
"Mick Murphy" :
| http://www.snapfiles.com/get/burningstudiofree.html | Above is a good burning program. So I tried it, but I'm afraid it didn't go right. Look, this is what I am looking for... Say, I have this directory: C:\PRIVATE\ which contains the following: FILE1.DOC FILE2.DOC FILE3.DOC I opened Burning Studio, saved C:\PRIVATE\*.* onto a DVD, and saved the project as MyPrivate.ashprj. Now, after that, I altered the contents of C:\PRIVATE\ on my hard disk by deleting FILE2.DOC. Then I launched MyPrivate.ashprj, fed the proper DVD into the machine and chose and went Next; the program obviously reads the contents of the DVD and then displays the list of files on the DVD, but when I go Next, it demands that I "add at least one file or folder to the list". What I want it do is check the contents of the DVD against the same directories on the hard disk, notice that the latter now missed FILE2.DOC, and so understand that it must erase that same file from the DVD. Which it does not. At all. Am I doing it wrong, do you think? | Imgburn will do what you are looking for | and it's free ~ 'The Official ImgBurn Website' | (http://www.imgburn.com) Thanks. I tried it too, but I can't understand why the program wants to erase the disc each time I put it into the machine (not to mention the fact that when I put the DVD in and launch the program, it doesn't recognise the DVD as having been used the time before and sees nothing on it, just says the disc needs erasing before being used). -- a. |

BurningStudioFree [ USB so slow + DVD backup]
PS: For some reason the program has now become aware that FILE2.DOC has
disppeared from the directory in the hard disk, so when I launch the short-cut for MyPrivate.ashprj it warns me and asks what to do; then it warns me that all data on the DVD will be erased--but it has not noticed that C:\PRIVATE\ now contains a new file, FILE4.DOC, which it misses completely. Far from what what I expected it to do... -- a. |

Imgburn doesn't support multisession, that is why it wants to erase your RW if it's not blank. -- locoeng vista ultimate 32/64 bit dual boot gigabyte ep35 ds3r/xfx geforce 8600gt/corsair 520hx g.skill ddr ii 800 x2 gigs seagate 120gb (ide) x2/wd 750 (sata) samsung sh203b sbo3 patched codeking pioneer 215l patched mcse nec/optiarc 7200s 1.06bt liggy&dee lite-on 20a1l bl06 -fb fbl eos eoht 6- |
