Unhappy can I back-up only new files in Home Edition?

Hi everyone,
I keep backing up files to an external hard drive and every time it makes a complete copy, and soon fills the hard drive with copies. Then if I delete the oldest I may lose things in there that are not in recent back-ups. How can I remedy this in Vista Home edition?
Thanks.

Buy a bigger external hard drive. Or two. Or three.

What I do: I allow weekly automatic backups to continue until I fill my 160
GB external hard drive. When full, I delete all the backups and start over
with a new backup. I find that backups after the first one are incremental
backups, and I get about three months before I have to start over. I may
opt for a larger external hard drive someday, but this works ok for me right
now. Just one way...

If you want to back up files to an external drive, Microsoft has a nice
program to do that: SyncToy
It keeps an exact copy of the files you selected and it won't fill the
drive with new copies.

Thanks to those who replied. I will try SyncToy which sounds like it does what I want. Deleting old back-ups when I run out of space has risks, because there are times when files were backed up, and are no longer on the computer, which I may one day wish to restore.

I tried SyncToy but the second and subsequent times I try to back up (on Vista Home Edition) I get the message "exception during run: the File Sync Provider received an unexpected error while applying a synchronised change" and it fails to perform the back-up.
Any advice, anyone?? Thanks.

Default back up Error with SuncToy...

For back up use SyncToy action: Echo
There are some problems with action: Synchronize

' Exception during run: The FileSyncProvider received an unexpected
error while writing a change - Microsoft Sync Framework'

I have tried Echo, Contribute and Synchronise again and in every case the same message appears and it fails to perform the back-up. I made a new folder pair and tried that and the same again.
Any clues what to do???
Reading other comments it seems that an earlier version of SyncToy was better....

I do have Nero which offers a back-up facility which seems to work well, and can be scheduled.
Any advice or experiences with that??
