Default Virus???

I've away for a couple of days and I've just turned my computer back on,
it was all fine entered my password at the login screen, then once I got
to the desktop it was back to how it orginally was when i bought it and
everything has been deleted but in actual fact nothing has been deleted
it's all hidden if I open my HDD and search for somthing like a song it
will come up and say the right directory but if i open the music folder
nothing will be in it.

I also tried scanning for viruses and I have about 277GB of data on my
HDD and it only scanned 7000 files and took 2 minutes.

Any ideas???

Cheers.

what AV did you scan with?

Anyway I personally would reccommend 'avast' (http://www.avast.com/)
home edition which is free for personal use and is fully featured. It
will prompt when first installed to perform a boot time scan which
should be set to check all local drives and full scan. I assure you
that that will take more than 2 mins.

I agree with using Avast as a free alternative. There are some other
malware freeware programs you can use as well. Take a look at this
thread for some x86 and x64 ideas:

When you can search for files and find them, but then they are not actually
there, they have been deleted and the search index has not updated yet.
Whatever infected you must have deleted them. You may still have shadow
copies if you check for them. Vista makes shadow copies of most stuff pretty
much on it's own, and every time you create a restore point. You may be able
to recover them all.
