Dual monitor issue (OS = Vista)
I'm using my laptop as my primary screen and a Samsung SyncMaster 730b as a
secondary. Operating system is Vista Home Premium. Both monitors are using a generic PnP driver (it's not giving me any options to install more specific drivers). I'm having issues with 2 things. One is that the primary and secondary screens seem to switch randomly after a sleep/hibernation or shutdown and restart. It doesn't happen all the time thankfully. I solve the problem by shutting down the computer, unplugging the secondary monitor from the laptop, restarting the laptop, then plugging in the secondary monitor. The second issue is more pressing - if I have used a program on the secondary monitor, then I go somewhere with my laptop and use it without the secondary monitor, if I start that program, it opens as if the secondary monitor is still there. It's totally off the laptop screen and I can't see it. My solution was to maximize the window and then I could see it. When I got home and connected the secondary monitor, I moved that program's window back to my primary monitor so I could use it when I was away. I checked in the Display Settings panel for the status of the displays and it said my secondary was inactive. I "identified monitors" and my laptop screen showed as primary. So all that looked correct. Any idea what's going on? Thanks! Eileen |
