Hi
Can anyone tell me if there is a source directory for install files on CD that can be copied to the hard drive? In Windows98/2000/XP I could copy the i386 directory to the hard drive, and change the sourc path in the registry to point to the hard drive. Then instead of asking for a windows CD when installing progs or drivers, the computer would happily read it from the hard drive. Saves a lot of messing around for the users. Can aynone help Cheers Lewej |

Vista uses an image based installation rather than a file copy method. The
old ways don't work anymore. I've never had Vista ask me for the Vista DVD while installing a program or driver. Has this happened to you? What caused it? http://apcmag.com/inside_vistas_new_...ed_install.htm -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ http://vistahelpca.blogspot.com/ "Lewej" wrote in message ... It's leading me to believe I can somehow rip vista from this notebook and put it on my desktop dell! ~:-[ |

You could do that with any version of Windows but you would run afoul of activations and WGA. -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ http://vistahelpca.blogspot.com/ |
