Hello, I have been trying to install three important updates to my Vista system and they are failing with error codes 8E5E0147 and 8E5E03FB. To get help with this error Windows suggest going on line. This I have done and then everything stops. Microsoft doesn't seem to recognise these codes and I can't find anything that mentions what they mean, except adverts for me to pay companies to "correct my system". I have been corresponding by e-mail "very slowly" with someone at Microsoft for the last 3 weeks, trying different suggestions of theirs and getting no where. I am now very frustrated that the security of my system may be at risk and Microsoft seem to be offering no help. From what I have been able to find on the web I am not the only one who seems to get nowhere with Microsoft and their error codes! Anyone else experience these error codes on windows updates, and have they managed to rectify them? -- Susan Sylvester |

Run windows update. Instead of trying to install the updates via that application, right click on each update and get the information. You'll find a weblink to information about that update. Download each update manually (you'll likely have to do it using IE, as M$ seems to be pesky about people using other browsers), and install them from the downloaded file. There is some real glitch in the x86 version of Windows Update, and that happened to me frequently. -- Zoloft "Be careful what you pretend to be, because in the end, you are what you pretend to be." You can use the Microsoft search engine. Enter the KB ****** to locate the
main page of each one; download it directly. If you are not sure, post the KBs here, to receive the proper links to download them. -- Mick Murphy - Qld (Sunshine State) - Australia "Susan Sylvester" wrote: Hello, I have been trying to install three important updates to my Vista system and they are failing with error codes 8E5E0147 and 8E5E03FB. Many thanks for replying and your suggestions. I did try but did not work. I am still in contact with Microsoft, who now suggest I repair system files by reinstalling installation DVD. -- Susan Sylvester |
