After reading all the comments in several of these threads, I am as mad as
everyone else. I got this new laptop in February 2008, but only tried to fax from it in September. I have Home Premium because it was preloaded and upgrading at the time was not an option. The price differential, even for an upgrade instead of an new program is outrageous. All of the articles that I had read said that most people should use Home Premium, even on the Microsoft website. As you can tell from the dates in then previous paragraph, I only fax things once or twice a year, if that much. It is not worth it to me to pay $100 more for a printer to add that capability. It is not even worth $30 for additional software, even though my computer is my only access to a fax machine short of Kwik Copy. I am VERY disappointed that Microsoft, in their usual infinite wisdom decided to remove a piece of their operating system that was used by so many customers. As usual, they keep giving us what they THINK we need instead of what we can really use. I did not migrate to any Microsoft programs (spreadsheet, word processing, etc.) until I was forced to at work because I have thought they were bullies for more than 20 years. Now they are proving it all over again! "Robert Neville" wrote: "Ken Blake, MVP" wrote: No. Only Vista Business or Ultimate does. You can but an inexpensive separate fax utility. Yes folks totally agree. I too only use the fax utility rarely. Until very recently I was using Vista Ultimate but I purchased a new PC with Home Premium already installed. The Ultimate version was OEM so tied to my "smoking" PC and couldn`t be used on another machine. Well imagine my horror just now when trying to use the none existant fax utility. I needed to send an urgent document and seen as the boys at the Royal Mail are getting bolshy again tomorrow thought that Id just fax it. Luckily my printer has a stand alone fax modem inside otherwise I would have been stuffed. It`s a Lexmark X6150 which although has fax software to run from the PC doesn`t support Vista at all. -- beberex ------------------------------------------------------------------------ beberex's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/beberex.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-print-fax/1041647.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
