boathome;844649 Wrote: Thanks everyone for getting me this far. You got me on the 6pin thingy. What does that mean? I am still under warranty, but there is no way I am sending my computer in. So I guess I will see what the policy is. How much do these things run? And would I be able to install it? Or should I hire a tech to do it? thanks again, Bo P.S. she's hovering around a comfortable 69d right now. ok..... the ''6pin thingy'' refers to the connections you have running off your PSU (power supply) you don't have a dedicated 6pin ....& its a generic 300w POS!! but your rig will run better graphics with a new PSU 1.... remove the blocking PCI card & allow some space for the PCIe slot.. 2.... replace your PSU for a corsair 550 or something of similar quality.. 3.... buy an 8800GS, GT, GTS & realize what you have been missing graphically ...lol ![]() or.... replace the 8500s cooler for an aftermarket one. no matter what you must remove the offending PCI card for any hope of maintaining you Graphics card. Update: I have been out of commission for a couple of days. My graphics card bit the dust while on the phone with the rep from mfg. It was going to take a week to get a replacement, which I couldn't wait for. So, I went down to the geek squad and bought a 9600 gt-oc and it seams to be working well. In the process, my wireless card crapped out too! So I have installed a usb wireless modem. What next? My power supply is rated for 400 w and the minimum requirement on the new graphics card is 400, is there going to be an issue there? I moved the TV tuner card down one slot to create some space which I imagine will make a huge difference. Bo -- boathome |
