Your computer is quite underpowered, but if you insist:

You buy an upgrade version of Vista Business and run it from within
Vista Home Basic.

Your best bet would be to specify Vista Business on your new computer with
high enough specs to not choke to death.....otherwise, I suppose you could
ignore the advice you have been given here and complain what a dog Vista is
when your current computer chokes to death on it.

Paul, here is a link for the anytime upgrade paths.
Looks like go to Ultimate, or nothing.

Nope. Go to the "upgrade paths" page linked from the above.

Upgrade from Basic to Business is a viable path.

The MVP Harper was just plain wrong about it not being possible.

The upgrade paths there, are upgrades from previous versions; namely XP.
The link I posted, and MVP Harper are correct

Well actually......
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...93bb81033.mspx

Hit the show all link

The link you referred to only applies to that Anytime Upgrade scenario, and
does not apply if you go to your local store and buy either a full or
upgrade edition of Vista.
