i have a factory build of vista ultimate that shows an error right out of
the box. the event viewer reads:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60
WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage
99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error
0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem
is corrected.

Event ID: 10

the laptop is working fine otherwise, but i would like to know how to stop
this error from ocurring. is there a windows update fix for this error?

Hi Steve,

This is another "error" that means absolutely nothing and can be ignored.
I've been living with it for nearly 2 years

Granted, I haven't quite worked out what is allegedly causing the "error",
but whatever it is has no impact on the performance of the Vista machines.

thanks for the quick response. is there a forum or other site i can monitor
the progress of these "errors" being fixed in microsoft? this is one of
three "errors" i receive in a new vista machine that, to a new vista user,
seem to either need fixing or need to be changed to the warning status or
other. the errors are listed in the administrative events section of the
event viewer and seem to be of some importance.

The good news is this error seems to be one of an endless number that is
asymptomatic--there is no performance compromise that you are aware of, and
I wasn't clear whether you see it listed in Event Viewer or it's also
annoyingly popping up on your desktop.

Here's the thing, at least in my experience in watching Event Viewer errors
and MSFT Windows errors in general closely and trying to run down their
causes for about 8 years. MSFT sends out speakers from the Redmond campus
who prophesize the day when they can provide real time error explanations
and remedies with every error. They've been working on ways to do this for
many many years. I don't expect it to happen, although they will improve I'm
sure.

Currently, using EV in Vista, I still find that when you click the on line
link provided by EV, you get the unhelpful comment that there is no
current remedy for the error/or explanation about 85% of the time.

I didn't find any Window error team blogs in my brief look, but maybe there
will be helpful info on this blog:

Given that your particular error is asymptomatic, I wouldn't worry about
tracking it down. Again MSFT doesn't have an explanation or remedy for
about 85-90% or higher of the errors logged in Event Viewer in Vista or on
an XP box when you go to the link provided which leads me to wonder why they
provide the link in the first place. And when someone from MSFT wants to
investigate an error with anything Windows or IE or else for that matter,
their penchant seems to be to request the blog although I have seen them ask
you to zip Event Viewer's error messages once in a while.

If I find a place that tracks errors and progress (like a team blog) I'll
post it but I haven't been able to.
