Vista won't recognize 2nd HDD
I got a second HDD yesterday due to my old one running low on space. Both are hooked up via SATA, both Seagates, old one is 320GB and new one is 500GB. When I installed it, I was able to format and assign it a drive letter and copy files to it. When I turned the computer off and on, it was gone. My BIOS can read it, the device manager can see it, the Disk Management can see it, but every time I try to format it or assign it a drive letter I get the message: "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists, close the Disk Management console, the restart Disk Management or restart the computer." I have done all of the above multiple times with no luck. I unhooked the cable and inserted it into another SATA connection and I started back at square one, where the I could format the drive and assign it a letter, but once the computer is turned off, the drive disappears. Please help as I cannot keep reinstalling the HDD every time I restart the computer!!! TIA! -- chris7519 |
