'[Dooper Wrote: ;853259']Hi, I currently have an HP pc with vista home premium 32 bit i got it 5 months ago.. I want to upgrade to vista home premium 64 bit but I go not know where to start... thanks for help. Hello Dooper, MS seem to have handed responsiblity for oem installations to the manufacturers. In other words, you need to approach HP with this question. You need to establish first of all if your machine is 64bit capable. I understand Hp are pretty good about supplying replacement recovery discs, but if it involves changing bit versions - then a complete reinstall is required. I assume you have a proprietary recovery partition and all kinds of stuff like HP Healthcheck ? In that case they may not simply be able to send you something thru. the post. Check with HP first and if they say your machine is 64bit capable, but it is too complicated / expensive to obtain the 64bit media thru. them, you can buy 64bit home premium dvd ( includes the license, i.e. product key ) from newegg.com , or similar. Last time I looked I think it was about $100. 'Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD - Operating Systems' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116488) Hope that helps SIW2 -- SIW2 |

You boot from the Vista DVD. When you get to the screen where you choose the
install partition, pick advanced options. Then delete the old partition, create a new partition and then format the partition. Then you can advance to the next stage. With Vista, you can't "upgrade" in the normal sense. You would need to
format and do a clean install. So, make sure you backup all your information. But, you can use your same product key to install the 64 bit version. You need to obtain the 64 bit media (contact HP support for the OEM disks) and start the install from there. -- Dustin Harper http://www.mstechpages.com | Vista Resource & Information Page (and more!)
