Default No Network Icons

I am attempting to configure my Vista Toshiba Tecra laptop with a static IP.
When I go to Network Connections there are no connections listed. This is
always true when I'm using the LAN, WiFi, not connected to anything. More
specifically, the card works fine with DHCP, but I need to do a custom
config for one of my locations.

How do I make the connections actually show up? I found a few XP articles on
this and none of them helped.

Thanks,
-p

Default No Network Icons

Thanks for the reply, let's see if I can explain what I've tried thus far.

Step 1 - 7 All my settings were correct as mentioned accpet I gave the
Networks Connections servie rights to interact with the desktop. I also ran
the SFC and it created no fix.

Step 8 - I do not have the NumMethods key mentioned more specificallly he
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/269019. I can not add it even when running
regedit as administrator.

Step 9 - All my settings were corect already

The remainder do not apply to me. I am missing all icons and I have no hang
as mentioned.

I'm pretty stumped on this one. Is ther another way to hack at these
settings from the commandline, registry, etc..?

Thanks for the help,
-p

It could be the 3rd party software issue. For troubleshooting, try to start
the computer with clean boot.

With that kind of reccomendation, its just time to rebuild the machine, or
go boot up the old XP laptop which is what I did.

Thanks anyway, not your fault the thing is running poorly.

Hey let me try one more thing, are there any 3rd party tools for configuring
this stuff so I don't have to rebuild my laptop or carry around my XP
laptop?

Thanks,
-p
