Default Vista constantly checking the network

Hello all - I've come across this site on a number of searches trying to
figure this one out:

Vista Business 64 bit or the software I'm using in vista is constantly
checking the network and I can't stand the delays anyone.

At first I thought it was the software - Adobe illustrator and
Photoshop CS2 which is not officially designed for Vista but still runs.

The problem is similar to the delay when printing to a PCL type network
printer.

One certain actions in the software - vista or the software seems to
start piniging the network (used as slang - not actually pinging) But I
can see all the lights flashing on the network switch while I wait for
it to finish what ever the heck it is looking for? If I disconnect the
network cable - I don't have these same delays.

I don't have a newtork browsing issue - browing files, internet,
saving, copying, downloading and uploading files is just fine - I tried
disabilng autotuning but did not make a change so I re-enabled.

Does anyone know what the solution is for this?

Here is my environment.

Vista Business 64 bit
Intel MB onboard Gb network on Linksys Gb network unmanaged switch.
4G Ram, 512 Radeon 2600xt, Raided Drives

I work off a server - Windows 2000 Server.
Server is set up as a domain server.

I will say that I've not joined the vista machine to the server domain
- figuring that I would be updated the server soon and I hate migrating
profiles. So the vista machine is on a workgroup of it's own for now.

XP machine and MAC connect and operate just fine on the network.

XP machine is not joined to the domain either.

Any suggestions?

John
