Default Network drive file problems

I have a mybook network drive which is accessed by various machines running
XP professional and Vista Business.

When Files are accessed by the vista machine it renames the original file
with a .tmp filename. The XP machines can no longer see the original filename.

The Vista machines regularly complain that the network drive is not online
when saving files to the network drive. This requires the Vista machines to
be restarted to resolve.

The XP machines have no problems with the network drives.

Are there any tweaks to Vista that need to be made to make them work with
Network drives correctly?

Hi
I have few Vista installation that works variety of Network Drives with No
problem what so ever. My guess would be that there is something concerning
with your specific Drive (My Book uses samba for network shares) that causes
it. try to approach it from my Mybook point of view (I.e. look for forums
that deal with MyBook issues).

Hi Bob,

I have checked these settings and they are as you suggest however the laptop
has wireless turned on at the same time as being physically attached to a
network cable, so I have turned off the Wireless option to see if this helps.

Thanks for your advice

Try these two tweaks first:

- Go into Power Options and set the network adaptor to "maximize
performance".

- Go into Device Manager, locate the network card, and uncheck the
"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

See how much of the problem goes away.
