I'm popping out today for a short while, but when I return I may have the side off, purely to have a look as thanks to your diagram I know what to look for on both HD's by looking at the Jumpers, and I am expecting to see that both have the jumper fitted as the "Master" and the storage drive should have been setup as Slave, that much I now understand. Just had more trouble and had to format again, all courtesy of installing a game that had Starforce on it and it said I needed to reboot, which I did and then bang! a load of stuff I did not understand and after a couple of screens it said I need to insert the Vista disk and chose repair, I did this but it then said it cannot repair it, so a format was all that was left, I am now nervous about the activation as I hate using the phone, I am no good on the phone and having to explain all this is a major task for me, I know why it has to be done, but it does'nt mean I am happy with it. Why oh why has this happened again? I did all the updates including service pack 1 and then this happens, I am so stressed right now ![]() So now I must begin again ho-hum! Hi chris, you can activate via the internet, a relatively painless process. What game did you install? What happened? I do know that Starforce is not a popular form of copy protection with users because it can do weird things to your system and is almost impossible to remove. -- NormCameron |

Hi Norm, The game was Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, (probably my own stupid fault) as that game does not work on Vista normally, but I found a method of getting it to work on the official forums and it someone had put up a zip file with three files in and you double click a bat file and it then copies the files from the DVD to your computer rather than running the automatic install for the game. Then you are able to play the game but only if you have the Road to Hill 30 disk which I have, I'm a big fan of those games, but something went horribly wrong ![]() I am yet to try to activate over the net, but I am not sure if my number of installs is over the limit, in which case it will tell me to phone Microsoft, or does this not happen now? would be good if that has stopped, but if it has to be then so be it, worse luck lol Chris -- Jekyll and Hyde [image: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...dsbanner1.jpg] '*Website*' (http://jekyllandhyde.informe.com/portal.html) |

I found this here. 'Brothers in Arms & Vista - Topic Powered by eve community' (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...2/m/1991086685) "Earned In Blood will install and run with Vista (32-bit) if you have Vista Service Pack 1 and the Starforce Vista update installed on your PC. Download and install Vista SP1 ('SP1 Link' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935791/)); re-start your PC; install BIA: Earned In Blood; download and install the Starforce Vista update ('SFUPDATE Link' (http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/)); install the latest game patches; re-start your PC and then go fishing or something. Note: You may need to right-click on the game launch icon and select "Run As Administrator" if the game will not start otherwise." The trick is I believe, not to restart vista until you have downloaded the Vista update for Starforce. As I have said Starforce is a nasty little critter I wouln;t want on my computer, but many people do have it. -- NormCameron |

![]() I'd suggest you find another game that works with Vista. Goodyou've resolved another problem. It gets easier doesn't it? Computers are very basic, they are linear and work off logic. A step by step logical approach is the best way to solve a computer problem. Cheers Chris arty: arty:-- NormCameron |

Thanks Normcameron, I have plenty of games that work with Vista, far too many to mention, but FarCry2 is going in soon, to be installed and hopefully will take it for a spin tomorrow all being well.
