Default Can't boot Vista

Hi,

I hope this is in the right place, apologies if not though.

My problem is this:

Today I tried to install a new Mouse, a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer
2.0 but I got into a pickle and now I am at my wits end, I installed the
software for it from its disk, but then unistalled it remembering the
chap that built my PC saying "Never install the software off the disk as
the OS will install the drivers for it" do I listen = No

So then after I had uninstalled it I tried to reboot, but Vista had to
be awkward and gave me the ntoskrnl is missing or corrupt, not only that
but my keyboard does not respond in Vista (thank heavens it does on this
HD XP!) and also my mouse won't respond either on Vista, so I have no
idea how I can fix it, as I cannot type anything or click on any
options.

Please can anyone help me

Many thanks in advance

Can you boot to safe mode?
if so you can perform a system restore

I can but like I have said my keyboard and mouse do not respond, so what
is the point? I can't click on anything or highlight an option via the
keyboard!

Even my old working mouse does not work on the Vista HD but does on
this one my XP HD

When I asked if you could boot to safe mode,
the implication was:

can you boot *normally* to safe mode

anyway, by your answer I see that the KB works prior to the OS loading

so next time when you boot up

hit F8 but try "last known good configuration"

rather than safe mode

If that does not work, you will need to take the repair option

Sorry, I did'nt mean to sound so rude, I am just in such a state that I
am taking it out on you and I am wrong to do so, please accept my
apology.

OK I can rebbot into safe mode yes, I have since connected an old
keyboard and a mouse and tried it again, but the only thing that
responded was the keyboard, but anyway, I have since decided to format
as I can't do anything else, but when I tried to do a repair first as
you said it still came up with that ntoskrnl error, so a format is all
that is left I think, but I hate to do it (don't we all?) but

There is now a probelm with formatting as I put the Vista disk in and
rebooted but it comes up with the Install Vista screen, I thought ok
I'll go a little further in clicking the options for keyboard language
etc, thinking that it might then say Vista is already installed and then
give me options of formatting, but it did'nt, so now I am stuffed as I
don't know where to go from here

What do you mean???

did the installer fail or freeze on you...

if so there may be some H/W problem.

I'd run a RAM test before going further just as a precaution.

Though Vista does have a RAM tester,
you can also look here

Ok you can scrap what I said above, I now have a new install of Vista,
don't ask me how though, I just followed things that come up and finally
got a screen up that had the disk on it and below it had things like
delete, format, new etc......I chose format and it did that but now on
booting up I get BOOTMGR missing, I am yet to reboot again, but I then
found a screen that had several options, command prompt, fix, repair and
a few others, I asked it to repair and rebooted and then got a screen
asking me what os to boot and then 23 seconds to make my choice, I chose
Vista and here I am, but I expect to get the same on the next reboot.

Sorry if I can't explain things, only I have mental issues and find
this all very hard going

You should be able to format via the Vista DVD; you just need to click on
the drive options. See this link from my website:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/format_..._vista_dvd.htm

For a better 'visual' view of the desired screen take a look at the
screenshot above step 14 in this link from my website:

Thank you John,

I shall take a look, before I saw your post I searched via google for
the bootmgr error and found a site telling me to type into the command
prompt xcopy /h bootmgr and then the drive I want to put it on, but I
typed C as that is the drive I want to use but it said that you cannot
copy files on top, so in a vain attempt I chose D and then it said 1
file copied.......

Oh well off to your site now

I'll get there in the end I hope
