When I boot up, Vista doesn't even see my router. I have to go under "Connect To a Network" and hit Refresh a few times. Then my network appears. I then takes a few minutes for Vista to connect to it. If I try to manully connect, it says the network isn't broadcasting or some other error. If I let it alone after booting, it eventually connects to the network, after 10 about minutes. I know it's similar to this guy, but I have the added problem of the network not showing at all: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-networ...startup-2.html -- Jheurf |

Hi
Make sure that your Wireless Router SSID broadcast is On. Jack (MS, MVP-Networking) "Jheurf" wrote in message ... When I boot up, Vista doesn't even see my router. Please bear with me as I haven't had time to learn much about wireless (new babies). Isn't SSID broadcast one of those things you tun off to enhance the security of your wieless router/network? I seem to remember turning it off just for that reason, based on security best practices I found online. -- Jheurf |

Can you please answer the following questions:- 1. Do you wait for the router to power on completely & then power on your notebook 2. If you can then please open the router console & change the channel to either 6 or 11. -- tanuj_chadha Tanuj History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce. - Karl Marx :geek: |

1. The Router is always On. 2. Sounds like a plan. But before I blindly try the solution out, I'd like to know: What will this do? Will it make my router less secure in any way? Thanks -- Jheurf |

I educated myself and read up on channels. I switched to 6 and now Vista seems to see my router on start-up (it was an intermitant problem, so I can't say if it's fixed for good). It still takes it a lot of time to connect, though. Any way to speed it up? -- Jheurf |
