Go back and read the part where the OP says, "I can use other fax programmes (e.g. Snappy Fax) without compatability (sic) issues." The modem obviously DOES support faxing. You're right, I missed that in his/her last post. Well, it would seem that the Windows Fax program just doesn't work well with her modem but the Snappy Fax program is more compatible. So there's the answer. Either s/he should use Snappy Fax or get a modem that is on Vista's compatible hardware list. I think Snappy Fax is a better solution. The ability to support one fax program does not ensure that all fax programs
will be supported. Windows Fax software has always had lots of modem compatibility issues, which is why selecting only fax modems on the VHCL is so important. I have also seen instances where installing one fax program will make the modem incompatible with Windows Fax software because of changes made to the modem's initialization strings. Unfortunately, there is no recourse through Microsoft if the modem isn't on the VHCL. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Tom Lake" wrote in message ... Russ can address your personal comments to him if he wishes, but you're missing the point. The OP has Vista Ultimate and so has a fax program in Windows. Microsoft doesn't need to create anything for him/her. What the OP needs (and seemingly doesn't have) is a modem that supports faxing. IOW, s/he needs the right hardware and it doesn't sound like s/he has it. Not all modems support faxing. I hope that has clarified the issue for you. Go back and read the part where the OP says, "I can use other fax programmes (e.g. Snappy Fax) without compatability (sic) issues." The modem obviously DOES support faxing. Tom Lake |
