I am currently in the process of building a new PC. I got it all put together but now I can't get Vista Business Ed. 64bit to install. I run the boot disk and I get to where it asks for where to save. It then does not detect my HD, I try to load drivers for my HD (seagate 160GB) but on their site they do not provide drivers saying that xp and vista have them already build in. I've tried to find as much info as i can find for things to try but none of them work or apply to my problem. From what I've read this is what I've done/know: -The HD is detected in BIOS. -The HD is pluged into the SATA_0 plug and DVD drive is in SATA_1 I've read some places that I could need to format my hard drive but, I dont know how to do it as I dont have a OS loaded yet on the PC. I expected there to be a few quirks in getting my new pc up and going but I'm stumped on this one. Could someone please give me some advise or a solution for my problem? -- FznCheese |

You boot from the Vista CD, which has all the tools to Partition/Format &
install But you should also read your mobo manual, as to whether, your Sata Controler requires third party drivers to be installed, early in the Vista set up process. "FznCheese" wrote in message ... The SATA controller on your M/B does not natively detect the SATA drive (the
drivers are not hard coded in the chip). You will need to have the drivers available on a floppy disk, CD or thumb drive. Then, when the install ask for the drivers, you point the installer to where you have the drivers saved. On my older M/B I have to install the drivers twice (during the initial install and again after the first reboot). Then the drivers are permanently on the hard drive as part of the installation. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "FznCheese" wrote in message ... Thanks for the quick responses. Ok, I've been trying to load the drivers found on my Mobo disc. I put the disk in my laptop and then extracted all the drivers in its BootDrv directory to a flashdrive and then plugged that into my desktop that I'm trying to install vista on but, It says 'No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, then click OK.' I've also tried using drivers for my mobo that I downloaded from their website but they did not work. Some more system info: Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P HD = Seagate Barracuda 250GB CPU = Intel core 2 Quad Q9300 Not sure if anymore info would help. Also thanks in advance for all your help. -- FznCheese |

1. You need the correct SATA (not M/B drivers) for your chipset
2. You have to place the extracted drivers only in the root of the device that you plan to use as the supply 3. This device "must" be recognizable during the Vista install 4. Do what you have to do in the bios to make certain that the device is available ( a CD is most universally available during install since floppies have waned away) -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "FznCheese" wrote in message ... I'm currently trying out the things you guys have mentioned above. While trying to find a solution today i stumbled upon this: 'Hard drive not found during Vista 64 Premium install.. - WinDrivers Computer Tech Support Forums' (http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=81526) It describes word for word what is happening to me. They narrowed it down to the HD needing to be reformated. However I do not have the ability to hook it up to another PC to format it (my only other PC is a laptop and I dont have a Sata to USB connector). Towards the end one guy came and said he used the a disc recovery tool provided by the manufacture, I tried this (using the one from Seagate) and created a boot disc. When I booted with the disc it failed saying it couldn't find a seagate drive. Also in that thread someone said they installed XP and it found the drive and then and went back over it with Vista. Would this work (I do have a copy of XP to use)? -- FznCheese |

Try the SATA drivers from this page and install where it says Load Drivers
on the select location to install page http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2919 "FznCheese" wrote in message ... I loaded the drivers for the chipset (intel p45) and the HD is still not showing up. -- FznCheese |
